Auburn overhauls its campus C-stores

Andrew Hudson   ||   Jul 13, 2018  ||

Auburn University's on-campus convenience stores are set for a makeover both in name and design this coming fall, following a successful proposal by food-service vendor Aramark.

As reported by The Auburn Plainsman, Auburn's current C-store locations, Outtakes, will be renamed "WDE Supply Co." Accompanying the name change will be a new feel to the locations, which the university's Tiger Dining wanted to feel more like a destination.

Tiger Dining wanted to make the C-stores more appealing to students by making them a place that was both visually appealing and offered students the food options they want.

Despite much of the stores' offerings remaining the same as before the overhaul, there will be some new additions including a popular milkshake and smoothie machine that will now be deployed across all campus C-store locations.

During the lead in to the overhaul, Tiger Dining identified a need for more snack offerings on campus. To help answer this demand, the new WDE Supply Co. will offer on-the-go style sandwiches and other quick meals.

The stores' offerings will continue to evolve over time as Tiger Dining and Aramark continue to identify student likes and dislikes. The convenience stores will also offer more healthy options than before.

Loughridge and his team at Tiger Dining are continuing to accept feedback and suggestions as to what students would like to see in the C-stores or anywhere else on campus.

On the operational side, the computer systems have been updated, enabling cashiers to now scan barcodes, which will make lines move much quicker.

Tiger Dining has had the C-store revamp on the docket for some time now, and the recently signed dining contract with Aramark provided an ideal opportunity to break ground on the project. Construction and remodeling of the C-stores will begin after the summer orientation period, with the goal of having all locations open for the first day of the fall 2018 semester.
